How Hong Kong is turning into ART
The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) is very much pleased to take the lead to organize the 2013 BI-CITY Biennale of Urbanism / Architecture (Hong Kong) (UABB(HK) 2013) with Hong Kong Institute of Planners, Hong Kong Designers Association, and Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture organizing Committee. This is the fourth of its kind in a series of Biennales, formerly known as “the fourth HKSZ Bi-City Biennale exhibition.” – MS. ADA FUNG JP, FHKIA, RA – President, HKIA
As you all can see above, Hong Kong is turning itself towards a higher art and culture reputation by allowing people and local companies to contribute onto making the streets and abandoned places of our favorite city have a second life. In a city where art is usually showed with shiny skyscrapers and fancy malls, Travis Blunt and all his team of architects, planners, designers and artists from Asia-Pacific region helped by volunteer art students are restoring old ferry piers such as the Kwun Tong Old Ferry pier in order to turn them into a splendid place where adults and kids can have some fun on a relaxing Sunday afternoon walk on the seaside. (please see below for other locations)
Major sites details:
KWUN TONG ferry pier – An underutilized part of a larger pier complex that once provided regular passenger and vehicular ferry services connecting Kwun Tong with shau Kei Wan, au ma Tei, Central and north Point Kwun Tong ferry Pier is the main concourse of the 2013 Bi-City Urbanism / Architecture Biennale (UABB). regular ferry service links Kwun Tong ferry Pier with north Point Pier on Hong Kong Island, UABB’s entry point.
EXPO @ EKEO – As the Biennale expo site, this once unused, fenced-off area underneath the Kwun Tong Bypass is transformed and enlivened by large-scale, exterior installations and a full calendar of events, including music performances, film screenings and symposia. It is within walking distance from the main concourse at Kwun Tong Pier.
NORTH POINT pier – Another underutilized part of a once larger pier complex and busy system of transportation, north Point Pier is Kwun Tong ferry Pier’s reflection on Hong Kong Island and the entry point to the 2013 Biennale, providing direct access from Hong Kong Island to the main concourse at Kwun Tong Peer and the EXPO @ EKEO
